"I am Canadian" Kick-Off Event Presented by MCT Insurance

Truro/Colchester’s Canada 150 festival will officially kick off with an opening reception on Thursday, December 7th presented by McDonald Chisholm Trask Insurance in honor of the Late Jed Ritcey, and will feature the regions rich and diverse history of sport. Jed Ritcey was very well respected in the world of hockey, serving as a long-time Hockey Canada Board Member, Hockey Nova Scotia Past President, and inductee into the Colchester Sport Hall of Fame in November of 2008.

The theme of the evening is “I am Canadian” and most fittingly will be emceed by Jeff Douglas, the Truro native who became well known as “Joe Canada” after the Molson Canadian commercial featuring a loud and proud Douglas reciting a now famous “rant” about what being Canadian means to him. A special reenactment of the speech is planned for the kick-off event, which will also feature Arash Madani as the Keynote speaker. Madani, also a Truro native, is recognized by Sports Media Canada for outstanding broadcasting and is the recent recipient of the prestigious George Gross Award. He currently works as a television and radio sports reporter for Roger’s Sportsnet. Organizers will also welcome the participating Canadian teams from this year’s World Junior A Challenge to take part in the reception.

A special sports legacy video will be displayed at the reception, honoring the past, present and future champions of sport, and a special Canada 150 Sport Mural will be unveiled in the RECC’s newly launched Athlete Development Centre. Tickets
